Family Fun in Bendigo - Water Parks, Cycle Paths, and Discovery

Find a place to stay

Bendigo naturally lends itself to fun family times, no matter the weather. In cold months, there are plenty of indoor activities for all ages to enjoy. During the summer, a state-of-the-art aquatic centre is the perfect place to cool off and have fun in the water. Exploring the surrounding countryside, where spotting kangaroos at sunset is almost assured, is easy by car, bike, or train.

Activities on the water

Bendigo may be 150 kilometers from the nearest beach, but that won't stop children splashing around all through summer. The Bendigo Aquatic Centre is the region’s finest, but many outlying towns also have their own community pool set amid the gum trees. Bendigo Water World offers the usual thrills and spills, while Lake Eppalock - about 30 minutes’ drive from Bendigo - is a haven for relaxed swimming and water sports.

Gold mines and weird science

Bendigo’s history of gold prospecting and fortune hunting can ignite the imagination of youngsters, especially when they find out that nuggets are still found across the region. A visit to the Central Deborah Gold Mine brings Bendigo’s gold boom to life. The Discovery Science and Technology Centre offers fun and educational exhibits on the cosmos, physics, and mathematical principles.

Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail

The O'Keefe Rail Trail is a 50-kilometer, mostly flat cycle and walking trail that follows a disused railway track from Bendigo to Heathcote. It passes through beautiful bushland and water reserves - you may be lucky enough to spot a platypus.
